Established under the Abbasid caliphs around 830 CE, the House of Wisdom (Bayt al-Hikmah) in Baghdad became a major centre for translating and advancing Greek, Persian, and Indian scholarship into Arabic. Scholars of many backgrounds and faiths worked side by side there on mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and philosophy, laying foundations that would later reach medieval Europe through Latin translations.
