Fought over six days in August 636 CE along the Yarmouk river on the border of modern Syria and Jordan, this battle pitted Muslim forces under the tactical leadership of Khalid ibn al-Walid against a large Byzantine army. Despite being outnumbered, disciplined tactics and a decisive final manoeuvre secured a complete Muslim victory. The defeat effectively ended Byzantine rule in Syria and opened the wider Levant to Muslim governance.
