Zakat is due on wealth you have held for a full lunar year (hawl) that exceeds the nisab. The nisab is the value of 612.36 g of silver or 87.48 g of gold. Many scholars prefer the silver nisab because it is lower, so more people give.

Personal items you use — your home, car, clothing and household furniture — are not zakatable. Gold and silver jewellery is treated differently by different schools; ask your local scholar.

This calculator is guidance, not a fatwa. For business assets, shares, pensions, mortgages or any complex case, please consult a qualified scholar.
