In 628 CE, after being blocked from entering Mecca to perform a pilgrimage, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ negotiated a ten-year truce with the Quraysh at Hudaybiyyah rather than force a confrontation. Though the terms initially appeared to favour Mecca and troubled many companions, the peace that followed allowed people across Arabia to observe the Muslim community directly, and more people are recorded as accepting Islam in the two years after the treaty than in all the years before it. The truce collapsed in 630 CE when Meccan allies attacked a tribe allied with Medina, directly leading to the Conquest of Mecca.
