Ibn Khaldun, a 14th-century historian and statesman born in Tunis, wrote the Muqaddimah, a work widely regarded as a foundational text of sociology, historiography, and economics centuries before those disciplines were formally established in the West. His theory of social cohesion, or asabiyyah, and his cyclical model of the rise and fall of dynasties remain influential in historical and social analysis today.
